Our Preventive Care Philosophy . . .
...............................................................................................................................................
We believe that people should be able to smile with confidence, eat with relish and enjoy their teeth for a lifetime. We also believe that prevention is far more enjoyable, less costly and more comfortable than treatment. So, from your first visit to the practice, our aim is to help you achieve and maintain a healthy mouth as quickly as possible.
Our Preventive Care Programme . . .
Through scheduled visits you will learn about good oral health, and you will be helped to develop the skills necessary to achieve this. The most significant thing you will discover is that a toothbrush by itself is of limited value! It is your skill in using a toothbrush together with a small number of aids specifically suited to you that will make the difference.
The use of these aids, which may include interdental and interspace brushes, dental sticks, dental floss and oral rinses are all included in the programme.
We Stock Homecare Items . . .
so that it is economical and convenient to obtain them while you are at the practice. We also enjoy looking for new innovative homecare items and will let you know if we find any that might be helpful for you. .
Our aim . . .
is for every patient to have a record of steadily improving dental health, confirmed by a "plaque count" taken at regular intervals. Depending on your needs you will be reappointed at 2/3/6 monthly intervals when we will be looking for improving dental health. Those who attend regular preventive care visits acquire the skills and knowledge to gain optimum dental health and can look forward to long-lasting confidence.
Let's work together . . .
Good dental health will take some longer to reach than others. Indeed, in extreme situations, it is not possible to eliminate gum problems altogether and the best that can be achieved is to slow the process down. In other situations, restorative work might be necessary to stabilize the bite first and/or to remove old dentistry that has become worn and difficult to keep clean.
Therefore, it might take a while to reach optimum health but if you understand where you are heading and set a goal in that direction, you can look forward to enjoying good dental health through a pleasant association with our practice.
Finally . . .
To help you budget for these visits, we have developed a series of financial Preventive Care Plans. If you would like further information, please ask Claire or Peggy.
