Why plaque?
...............................................................................................................................................
Put very simply, when it comes to bleeding gums, there is one major common factor for all of us.
That factor is PLAQUE – the soft, creamy material full of bacteria that builds around your teeth.
Your body responds to plaque by increasing the supply of blood to the gums. That’s one of the things blood does – it contains cells which act against bacteria. The process is called inflammation.
Inflamed gums are swollen, red, shiny and soft, and when you touch them, they bleed. |
