How do we achieve a strong, stable result . . . and why?
...............................................................................................................................................

Why do we need a stable result?
Many people have old dentistry in their mouths – a ‘patchwork quilt’ of dental treatment, performed at uneven intervals throughout their lives. When new dentistry is made to fit against older, worn dentistry, the result can be uneven – the bite can change. It can even result in collapsed bites and difficulty with chewing.

Also, a poor bite can add to jaw joint problems (TMD), muscle tenderness and even increase the incidence of headaches. For a few people, speech may be affected as well.

And it can create an appearance that ages you before you are ready!

The need for careful planning:
Modern restorative dentistry has evolved dramatically in recent years and now embraces a wide range of disciplines that was not available as recently as ten years ago.

The more complex the problem, the more careful the planning needed for a stable result, by a dental team who must employ extensive knowledge and skills, skills that, in an ever-changing world, must be continually updated.

Disciplines within dentistry include:
Conservative Dentistry - fillings, inlays, onlays, veneers and simple crowns and bridges. We use white fillings and, where appropriate, metal-free crowns to achieve a natural result.

Periodontics - non-surgical/surgical gum therapy for the treatment of disease, as well as cosmetic gum recontouring (perioplastic surgery).

Endodontics - root canal treatment.

Prosthodontics - replacing missing teeth with bridges and/or dentures.

Orthopaedics and Orthodontics - realigning jaws and teeth.

Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Therapy - for correction of joint and muscle disorders

*Dental Implants - the use of dental implants, (artificial roots), to support replacements for missing teeth.

*Bone and Tissue Regeneration - bone and tissue can be surgically regenerated, grafted and augmented.

*Orthognathic Surgery - for correction of skeletal abnormalities.

Aesthetic Dentistry to create a confident, radiant smile. This can involve any of the above or be as simple as tooth whitening.

Children’s Dentistry - caring for the developing teeth and bones of your child, knowing that he or she will one day be aware of his or her own health and appearance and that what we do now will make a difference in the future.

* In order to achieve what we believe to be the best care for you, should it be appropriate, we would normally refer you to specialist practitioners who have dedicated themselves to these particular fields of dentistry.
