How:

We will

  • Undertake gum “scoring” to establish the current level of disease - plaque, bleeding, recession
  • Establish an appropriate Home-Care Programme
  • Clean and polish above the gum-line
  • Help motivate YOU to carry out good Home-Care

Visit 1

  • An explanation of the problem - with illustrations of your mouth
  • The level of disease is measured – using a plaque count* and bleeding score* *
  • Home-Care Instruction (step 1) - toothbrush technique, type of toothbrush (electric and/or manual), size and shape
  • Scaling (cleaning) of teeth

Visit 2

  • Plaque score and bleeding score to monitor the progress of your Home-Care Instruction (step2) -
  • Review toothbrush technique, instruct in use of floss, type of floss, general advice on home-care products (other cleaning aids and rinses) Completion of scaling and polishing of teeth above gum-line
  • Establish maintenance follow-up***

The Level of disease at any one time is measured by

  • A plaque count = the amount of plaque measured on your teeth and expressed as a % score
  • A bleeding score = the amount of bleeding from the gums also expressed as a % score
  • The aim is to achieve a maximum 10% plaque level and 0% bleeding level.

At the routine maintenance follow-up visit (e.g. 3/4/6 monthly, hygiene review) the following is carried out:

  • A plaque count and bleeding score
  • A re-evaluation of your gum condition
